The dream is to have a body that looks toned and not with love handles. We are a breed of vain humans, idealizing our social media influencers to the point of creating and following fad diets and intense workout routines that may do more harm than good. Does that mean that we cannot have that Instagram-perfect body? No way!
As a big-time Mallu foodie, I had used the lockdown to stress about my business and to overcome the stress by indulging in some of my favorite home-cooked meals, and doing it often. I happily also supplemented it with lots of chips, and only decided to take a hard look at my once-lean physique after 2 whole months of binging.

Ashante Nenju was closed at the time and I couldn't really work out in the confines of my home. That is when I challenged myself to walk 10,000 steps a day. Day 1 was surprisingly easy. Day 3 had me aching all over at night, to the point where I just walked 8,000 steps the next day. I refused to give up ,and realized that my appetite had normalized, and that I could not force myself to eat more than my body needed after 1.5 weeks.
Before starting to walk, I had put on 2.5 kilos. I refused to weigh myself until I had kept walking for one whole month. A month later, I discovered that not only had I lost 2.8 kgs, I had also lost those flabby love handles and was on the way to getting back to my lean self. A month after starting to do the 10,000 step challenge, I also started an intermittent fasting routine, and followed the 16:8 routine. Honestly, I did not change my diet as such and continued to eat my favorite homemade foods, but I definitely reduced my junk food and chips intake because I simply was not hungry enough, and I did not feel like having that oily, bloated feeling inside myself.
So, can you achieve weight-loss and abs through walking? I have done it, and I definitely think that it's an easy but time-consuming method to fitness. I continue to walk because I love to walk, and because I find it easy to do while managing my business over the phone, or while listening to an audiobook. I recommend it highly, but I'd love to know your opinion on this. Come and tell me at Ashante Nenju; our circuit training exercises will help you achieve your fitness goals much sooner than I did : )
